“How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!” As we enter the month of June these words from Psalm 133:1 are but a wishful plea for the people of both North and South Korea today. This is a continuous spoken and unspoken plea for all living on the entire Korean peninsula in the year 2017 and for the past sixty-seven years. Technically speaking the Korean War is ongoing, only in the words of the Armistice agreement has there been a lack of massive bloodshed. Recent actions by the North’s belligerent young leader has increased the possibility again of outbreak of conflict, but this time with nuclear weapons, and not only limited to the Korean peninsula, but Japan and even the USA.
As Christians, we must be in constant prayer for divine intervention. We must pray that the people living in the darkness of North Korea, as revealed by night time space photography, may see the light of God’s Son Jesus Christ on the horizon of their future. Only the presence of the Prince of Peace can the heart and mind of the young leader’s bellicosity be changed. We must claim the promise of our Lord when he said in Matthew 18:19 “Again, if two of you on earth agree on anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.” Then could the words of Psalm 133:1 be shouted aloud, one day, by all the brothers and sister on the Korean peninsula in praise for unity
I pray that this maybe done so those aging seniors who survived the terrible ordeal of the Korean War may know their suffering was not in vain. All those who personally engaged in that conflict have passed away or are in the twilight of their days.
The three score years of this unresolved conflict has left divided families, broken relationships, a gross disparity within a once homogeneous people. We pray that the amazing grace of our Lord will bring brothers and sisters together in unity. So during this month when we commemorate 6/25, May god who give endurance and encouragement give us His Spirt of unity among ourselves as we follow Jesus Christ (Romans 15:5).
